New render featuring a fixed wake behind the ship. I tried to do this from the start but was never able to get the dynamic paint to bake properly. Figured it out and now it works as intended.

I replaced the original tree object with a collection of 3 new trees of varying proportions. I also added a color ramp and noise texture to the river to add some extra white water and foam where it flows into the body of water.

Duplicated the tree collection and instanced them on the background mountain. I changed the color to be more purple, like the mountain. Also added an image plane with a noise texture to create a light mist at the river inlet.

Now with the ship. I was able to re-use the fire/smoke sim that I made for my previous render. Rather than hand-animating the ship, I had it follow a path which was much simpler and better looking than my previous hand-keyed movement.

This is the same render as above, but I realized that I forgot to add a camera shake as the ship flew by (which is something I wanted to have) and tried to add the effect in post with Premier.
